The famous Steve Davis/Dennis Taylor final

Post by RHill » Fri Nov 07, 2014 8:55 pm

I'm sure a few will remember the 1985 World Snooker Championship final where after 2 days, it was all decided on the final black. I remember my Mother letting me stay up very late to watch the final frame.

The reason I'm mentioning this final, is because I've just been reading about it on Wikipedia and noticed that the dates the snooker final was played was on the 27/28th April 1985. This was only the weekend before Newcastle played away at Stoke City which was when Neville was in bed with Brenda listening to the match.

I wonder if any of the actors left Nottingham to travel the short distance to Sheffield to watch Steve Davis V Dennis Taylor the weekend before.

Anyway coming in off the cushion here.
I do remember this final a lot. My mom stayed up late to watch the end, but my dad had had enough and buggered off to bed if I remember rightly. That could have been the Joe Johnson final a couple of years later however, cause I'm not the memory man is a!

I watched Joe Johnson beat Steve Davis too. Year 1986. Ah...happy days.

I was watching some Snooker once and the camera panned to Tim Healy in the audience with the commentator pointing him out "of Auf Wiedersehen Pet fame". Can't remember the match or the year though, but he obviously likes a bit of green baize action. (Presumably unlike Kevin Whately, who prefers Pool...)

I think that's what Lee was referring to regarding loopy. A pun like. Least I hope he was. Certainly smells like it.
