Always 10-15 year old bangers.

Mk2 Escort (my first love, vinyl seats).
Mk3 Escort (luxury compared to the Mk2).The front wings were completely rotten but I did a fantastic job of filling and painting it (and an orange pencil stripe set it off beautifully).
Vauxhall Astra.Looked shit and drove worse.
Peugeot 405.
Peugeot 106 diesel.
Renault Laguna.

I picked it up in 2001 for £600, one previous owner mint condition, 13k on the clock, full service history. I owned that car for 6 years doing over 50k in it travelling all over the UK and France in it. Sold it to my cousin who ran it into the ground over the space of 12 months culminating in the engine blowing up on the M56 due to the fact he ran it with less than 1 pint of oil!

My first car was a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, after I'd seen Spender. Insurance was frightening.

Also had
Suzuki Swift
Rover 220 turbo (missus blew the engine twice)
Renault Clio (when the family arrived)
Fiat Bravo :?
Vauxhall Astra 2.2 Bertone (missus blew the engine on this aswell)

now got a Fiesta for work, and a Ford Focus ST.

I reckon I got the one bad Honda D16 engine. 2 owners from new 62k on the clock, full history, yet it hated hot starts, or being left to idle in traffic. Chap who bought it from me ripped out the EFi system and retro fitted twin carbs from a Civic Shuttle which seemed to cure a lot of its little foibles!

I loved both of my Vitesses but I found the narrow low profile tyres Rover chose to fit to production Turbos made them feel less assured at speed than the 15" fat tyres they had fitted to the 827 Vitesse cars.

What a brilliant thread!

I have had a few cars over the years, so this will be a trip doon memory mane for me!

1984 Ford Fiesta - First car bought after passing my test at aged 17. Worked well, had a trip to Beesthorpe Hall and The Windmill in this bugger in 1995! Worked well for about a year, but after filling it up at a local petrol station that had had water leaking into the petrol tanks, it buggered it up! Worked again, but was never in the half tip top condition it used to be! Used to have the choke on full after damage.....

1992 Ford Escort - First car bought with my girlfriend, now my wife. Worked well, but after some bugger rear ended it at Ainley Top roundabout in Halifax, the boot would only shut when slammed like you were trying to take someones head off like Vinny Jones in Lock Stock! Traded it in for a nearly new Fiat Punto! Thankfully the garage part ex'd and didn't try the boot! Phew.... ;)

2000 Fiat Punto - This was supposed to a great small family car after having my first daughter, but turned into being a Friday 5 O'clock special! Had endless problems with it, leaked like a sieve, literally had 2 inches of water sloshing round in the back after heavy downpours. This was never solved, even after having it in the garage under warranty for 6 weeks! Countless other problems, total nightmare of a car! I also once hit a fox on the M5 at about 75 mph once, and covered the whole car in blood and guts....ahh happy days... :)

1988 VW Golf - Moved to Spain and bought this for a few quid, just to get us around. Turned out to be an amazing car, never once did it not start. Had a few minor glitches, like having to have the handbreak on a touch to have interior and dash lights on, but worked very well nonetheless. Always raised smile among work collegues when wanting the light on to find there bollocks etc....

2004 Seat Ibiza - Bought this after running the VW Golf into the ground! Worked exceptionally well, but was a bit boring. Did have air con, very much needed in Spain in the summer.

2008 Seat Altea - Without a doubt the best car I have ever driven! Bought when having daughter number 2, and was just brilliant! 2.0 T Diesel, that was fast off the mark, and never missed a beat. Really want one of these again.

2009 Seat Ibiza - Bought when coming back to the UK, my wife loves it, but I dont like the gear ratios! Great car, good mileage, a touch boring.

I love Rovers. I currently drive a 2000 Rover 25. I'd love a Rover 75 V8 if I ever had the money to buy it and keep it going.
