Anyone else thought this ?

Post by Lynchy » Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:40 am

Hello,

Brand new here and really impressed with the site. Well done to everyone connected to its running and upkeep. My sincere thanks - so very pleased a respectful appreciation of the show exists.

For me this has always been the best drama shown on tv. When it returned I was so relieved. In the intervening years I often wondered whether it would and what would happen to everyone.

Did anyone else have ideas as to what would have happened after the Sans Souci wedding ? If anyone's interested I will share mine !

Please don't get me wrong - I also loved the comeback with the Transporter Bridge and so on - that was inspired !

It would have been nice for the lads to have talked about the past a bit more, with what happened after the boat wedding, and what happened to Fraser and Ames etc.. But i guess we will never know.

The first thing I thought of after I read in the paper that they were making a series 3 was; I'll find out what happened to Ali and the lads after they got off that boat? For that to still be a mystery after watching the new series kind of felt a little disappointing for me. So it wasn't just Wayne that I'd missed, but also a few explanations or storylines from series 2.

The only things we do know is-

Dennis kept the 25k, and married Christine and then divorced her, or that's how it looked.
We also know Barry was married to Hazel for a bit, but then she went lesbo....

Unanswered questions for me were-

Did Oz claim his lottery win?
How the hell did Moxey get back in the UK?
What happened to Vicki?
What happened to Ally?

Yes I wish we got an answer for those 4 unanswered questions - especially about Moxey!

What it comes down to is Series 3, was trying to get a new audience more than trying to recapture the imagination of the older viewers, as it was 15 years, and trying to carry on from where Series 2 left off, would not have worked.

I am not saying I disagree with this original post, I have often wondered what happened at the end of 'Quo Vadis, Pet' and sadly, we'll never know.

Yes I agree. You have to get the attention of the new audience as there is more of them after 15 years. Oh yeah, and I didn't half miss Joe Fagin's singing voice at the beginning and on the end credits.

As the authorities were in hot pursuit i guess Ally either got arrested and sent down or went on the run.Vicki probably went back to newcastle.I recon The lads got expelled for not declaring they were working and found in the company of a wanted fugitive so no chance to claim.Moxey left on fake documents so he either used them to get back to the uk or got new ones.Just my 2cents?Checking Hasta Vista S2 E9 he had his original passport i forget what he travelled on but he could have returned to finish his sentence because if not he would remain a fugutive?

Interesting reading the responses ! I'm not alone then

I agree in series 3 that the writers needed to appeal to new viewers asap and respect that.

As a firm fan I also would love to have found out what happened next.........For me, I would like Vicki and Oz to have stayed together and grown in a lovely irresponsible way with the lottery win being the springboard for them. (how gorgeous was Vicki by the way !?) Perhaps Barry could have been the one to bring the lads together again after breaking one of the urns by accident moving out from Hazel. And being very depressed. I always thought with Wayne that there could be loads of kids from Germany and England finding each other ! There would be room for humour and real drama there.Especially when his death would have to be addressed at some point. He was / is so sorely missed.
On a romantic note, perhaps Dagmar could have sought out Dennis for their own reunion. I would have thought Dennis would have his own builders / trade yard and Neville could have worked for him. Moxey could have stayed in Spain for a good while then returning over 10 years later, again, plenty of comedy drama moments with him thinking he still needed to evade plod......yet finding out very late on that his sentence had expired and there was no need to worry !
Bill Paterson is a great actor and played Ali so well. Somehow, it would have been wonderful to see him again. Down on his luck completely ? and needing help himself ?

Anyone pick up on the slight mistake with Bomber ? he always had 5 kids, then in later years after announcing that his wife had died, that he only had 4. I have 6 kids so remember that well ! I also miss Bomber, all the casting was perfect. I guess that's one of the reasons that we are all on here !
He's the one who could - again - for comedy / drama could have been put into a completely different environment. Eco warrior, gardener, tv gardener !? or local politician !

I've gone on a but here ! Sorry everyone. I think it demonstrates how hard it must have been to do this again, series 3 onwards, I'm so glad they did though. The OED was incredibly inspired, they really could have gone on forever.

Jimmy Nail did say in his book, that by finding the OED storyline, that Auf Pet could go on forever. I know many fans didn't like the latter series, and thats there opinion. I posted the TV Times from 2004 on Twitter last week, and got a comment about how that wasn't Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. For a moment, I thought I had posted the wrong link, but then figured out what he meant.

I ignored the comment, as I love every series, and I am not being biased as I run the site. I have always been honest about the shows, even saying that I thought Series 4 was too soft and not a harsh environment like Series 1 and 2....

After series 3 i never expected to get series4 and the specials, but i was made up and i thought it did the name justice. The specials came full circle and sent the 3 back to germany, when i watched that i had a tear in my eye.

How about this fellow 'Petstas'; The San Souci had hardly been cruising for months so broke down when under full steam. All on board are arrested and escorted back to Spain. A deal was cut with the British Embassy, thanks to Debbie being involved. Ally and Kenny are marched off to court and sent back to Blighty for 25 years penal servitude. Oz's lottery win is 'claimed' by the Spanish Old Bill which does a deal with the British Old Bill and pays for everyones air fares back to Newcastle. The rest is kept and went towards the next Secret Policeman's Ball, all much to Oz's disgust. Moxey was let off as part of a deal for getting Ally and Kenny. Just being a low life punter, the paper work wasnt worth the hassle so he was told to bugger off and keep away from fireworks. Oz and Vicki last but a week. She goes back to the hairdressers, he goes back to the Portland. Dennis recovers the 25 Grand, less what he bumped himself to Club Class and shares it out among the boys. All handsomely rewarded for their efforts. We all know he eventually marries Christine but it soon all turns to shyte! Moxey heads off to places unknown. Wayne back to Tilbury. The Hopes back to co-dependant paradise. Barry and Hazel to Wolverhampton and wedded bliss, that lasts for a week. The 'Prince of Trivia' soon does her head in and we all know what happened. Bomber back to Bristol and throws himself on the mercy of Patsy. footnote; Oz goes off to Milano to find Rod. Because he gets on with Sandro, it works out quite well and even Majorie softens, just a wee bit mind! Seeing how happy Rod is and how his ball control is fast improving, Oz then offskis to 'Ibetha' where his earnings very quickly get guzzled by booze and women. What dya reckon kiddies ???

Perfect Tracy.

And I actually reckon that Moxey's ending would of just been like that. I was a bit disappointed that Hazel turned into a lesbo. I used to fancy her.

Some of that you could actually imagine, other bits like Oz heading to Milano because he was ok with Sandro is a little bit strange as Marjorie wanted him out of the way.. but a good bit of text there.. i reckon Moxey would have had to finish his previous sentence though or it could have been extended as he ran away from them on his own accord..

Really enjoying reading other peoples' thoughts. Especially with the original dialect peppering the page. "could de d'get bladdered the neet"

For me, Series 1 was the best, by far, series 2 was wonderful and yet sad for obvious reasons. I do think that series' 3,4 and then the special was pure bonus as it had been away for so long. Some lovely scenes in them all though. I totally agree that when they get a posting to Germany and we knew it was really the end this time, that was when the tears started !

I've been looking at supporting actors / actresses recently .......Saw that Gina McVee was the object of Wayne's lassoo desire in "Cowboys" (she appears in loads of big films and tv stuff now) And as for Ray Winstone .......... Just wish Vicki would turn up again !
