Soppy old sod really...but...everyone has, or needs a hero, and he was mine.
Under no illusions about his murky past in Brum, I've heard many a tale...and he may have been a giant but he certainly wasn't gentle in his younger days.
But he was part of a generation that I grew up in, and now seems to be long gone, or at least a lot of its values and loyalties.
I remember my Dad telling me as a kid that all the townies we're scared of Roachy!
Happy days

Pat....Respect and peace...from your many fans at the AWP fansite.

I'm a bit of an old bruiser myself, but I found it quite emotional and sad.
My memories of Pat are how huge he was, you don't quite get that in screen, and how he had time for fans and championed the underdog.
I spoke to an old guy yesterday from Birmingham wholesale market, and we talked about a notorious family of gangsters in Brum in the 70s and 80s.
Nasty people. But this guy said "there was only one bloke in the town that they were scared of.... Roachy!!

My husband saw him one night in a pub in Brum. He was wearing a shell suit and loafers and a fur coat........no bomber!
