I'm 31, and I vaguely remember first seeing it in the late 1980s when my local ITV region, Grampian, repeated it in heavily edited half hour episodes. I first watched it properly on the Channel 4 repeats in 1995.

I wish we could get our hands on these edited versions, would be worth a laugh.
I remember seeing some of them like this. Stick out moments were all the swearing just silenced like ' we cn have a monumental ..... up, magowans ...... off with the dartboard!'
Also there were a few digital zooms and repeated sections to mask off any nudity, adverts for flaggilation etc. The fleapit scene with herr grunwald was really short.

Digital zooms??? I never knew that! Must of lost picture quality. Why don't they just show it later in the evening. That's why I can't stand all this broadcasting editing (or whatever they call it), gets on my tits.

Not at all.
I remember finding an old newspaper with these 30 minute shows being in it at 7.30 and thinking how they managed to chop 25 minutes from each episode and making it work.

No they turned a 50 minute episode into 2 episodes. i remember one when Norma answered the door then it finished on the reaction of Oz acting relieved that someone was in. Then it was Fagin's singing voice. Next week was Norma inviting Oz in. Didn't edit much out at all.

Kev aged 52, watched it from day one as me dad (rest his soul) said it would be a cracking program. He wasn't wrong very often and certainly wasn't with this one

42. I started watching in 1983 when 12 years 8 months old, 15 when series 2 started. Loved it from day 1. I even got all the humour from series as well.

Snap (well I'm almost 42).

Caught most of the original series in '83 & then really hooked by the time they started at Thornley Manor/Marbella.

Definitely got the humour, as did a good proportion of my classmates, AWP being the major topic of conversation after the weekend following an episode IIRC.
Many impersonations of the main characters - my particular skill being able to take off Bill Paterson.. :D
