One Thing That Never Worked For Me...

Post by peng50 » Thu May 16, 2013 2:50 pm

Was when ITV split series 1 into two parts for a 7.30pm re-run.

It was simply awful... lots of scenes missed out, swear words deleted because of
the viewing time and just a general mismatch as ITV wanted to stick it prime time.

How many of you remember these episodes ? Think they were shown on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, but can't actually remember in what year.

Thankfully i dont recall them, but im sure i would have hated it, not that i hate anything Auf Pet but you know what i mean, why change anything on a great TV show that approached perfection?, stupid really.

It was 1988, and going up against EastEnders which was taking all of ITV's ratings.
This link mentions a bit about it - http://www.auf-pet.com/lookin88.html

I remember this well. I might be wrong but certainly at the time I thought it was the first time they'd been repeated. I was ten when the series first aired and although I watched it I was too young to remember any of it, but we taped the final episode on video and I watched that enough over the next few months to fall in love with the show. We recorded most of the second series when it first aired but I was desperate to see the first series 'again'. When it re-ran in half hour episodes I was so chuffed, but looking back now, you're right - some of the edits were downright sinful!

Here's a few I remember:

Dennis to Wayne in Home Thoughts from Abroad: "You knaa she's Bomber's daughter. And you knaa that if you lay one finger on her..." - scene ends

Wayne in Love and Other 4 Letter Words: "Blimey Den... What we gonna do eh?" - episode ends

And in the final episode there was an hilarious one-word dub of Dennis saying: "I've acted like a right prat"

I am right in thinking that the program first aired 9pm of a Friday night?

Yes indeed it did... I remember watching the first series as a kid - caught the first episode by
accident when my mum and dad were out and my brother left the tv on, as he talked in
the other room to his mate. I then pleaded with my mum and dad the following Friday to let me watch the rest.
