Pat Roach

Post by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet » Sun May 19, 2013 11:36 am

Francis Patrick 'Bomber' Roach was born on this day in 1937.
Sadly, as we know Pat lost his fight with cancer on the 17th July 2004, and didn't make it into the final 2 episodes.

As many folk may remember, I posted a few months back about the several times I met Pat Roach, so I couldn't let this day go by without my personal tribute to the big man.
He was a really genuine bloke. He had many businesses in Birmingham over the years, and where I grew up, everyone knew somebody that knew 'Roachie'.
He was a shrewd business man, very streetwise, and a lot tougher than Bomber. Also, a big family man.
But, as I mentioned before, so softly spoken, and always made time for his fans.
It was always weird hearing him speak with a broad Brummie accent instead of Bomber's accent, and he was bigger in real life than he looked on screen, I remember watching him duck down to walk through a standard doorway!
Enough from me anyway, RIP Big Pat.
