Wyman's age - a gaffe?

Post by Musta bin Elbowed » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:23 am

Anyone know how old Wyman is supposed to be when we first meet him? He's surely got to be at least 20, which means he was born in or before 1982. But when his mum comes along in series 4 she says Wayne spent the night with her before buggering off to "wherever you lot were" - but Wayne wouldnt have known the other six at that stage.

I think she means he went off to Germany to find work. When Wyman goes looking for his dad he must tell Chrissie about the other lads so she knows it's them he met in Germany when she meets them.

If that makes sense.

Haha, i'll try again...

Wayne and Chrissie spend the night together.
Next morning Wayne buggers off to find work abroad.
Chrissie don't know where he's gone.
She ends up pregnant.
20 or so years later her son, Wyman, meets up with Den, Nev et al and tells them Wayne is dead.
Next time he sees Chrissie he fills her in about these lads who met Wayne in Germany in 1982.
When Chrissie meets Dennis, she knows he's one of these 'six'.
Hence she says: "Wherever you lot were."

:)

I've made it even more complicated, haven't I? :?

Plus the way she says "wherever you lot were" suggests she has no idea where he went. But if she now knows they met in Germany surely she would say "he buggered off to Germany"?

And how would she even know he buggered off and met these six, unless he told her he was off to meet "those lads I worked with in Germany"? If he'd never met them before and she didn't see him again, she wouldnt know he had gone to meet the lads, just that he was off to find work somewhere.

I'm confusing myself here now....

As I said, Wyman might have told her about the lads :)

It's a bit more conversational to say "Where you lot were" the first time she meets Dennis :)

Series 3. Wyman gets back to London from the North to pick up some records.

Chrissie: So what was the letter all about then?
Wyman: My dad met these Geordies while working abroad back in '82, before I was born.
Chrissie: So he buggered off abroad after you were conceived then? Not surprised!
Wyman: They were surprised to see me! Cool bunch though.
Chrissie: Tell me more...

Or summink like that. Ah bollocks man! :D

Hold On Ive got a question(in the style of Neville)

regardless of when wyman was concieved or born possibly 1982 - he says he did not know his dad at all when talking to oz and his mum says he buggered off shortly after meeting , so how did wyman get the funeral invite if he did not know his dad let alone know his address....

I think Wyman wanted to meet his dad and went looking for him. He'd have got info about Wayne's old haunts or girlfriends etc. He'd have visited a few people asking about Wayne. One of the addresses he visited would have been the last contact address Oz had for Wayne. Then Wyman found out his dad had died, so he presumably knew of his last known address. However Oz sent the letter to the last address he had. So eventually the letter found its way back down the chain to Wyman. So then:

"It had the wrong address, but I got it eventually..."

Well, stranger things have happened :)

I always thought it was a bit lazy calling her Chrissie, bearing in mind Wayne married a Christa and Dennis dated a Christine.
