Auf Wiedersehen, Pet wrote:The date of the letter Barry sends to the lads is dated, Wednesday May 15th no year for the date. So, lets say Neville sees Dennis the same week in Newcastle, and Dennis says...'We'll gan dan Tuesday after dinner...' so that's 21st May......
So Neville and Dennis at 'The Bel and Dragon' is May 21st....
So working from those dates, the lads are at Thornley Manor on Monday 27th May?

So I watched 'Cowboys' last night, roight, and it suddenly occurred to me that if the lads were at Thornely Manor during the summer months, which i'd always assumed, how can Neville be listening to a Newcastle match? It would be the close-season, surely?!?

We have the date of that match, so we know when it was filmed, or near enough.

Nev was listening to a recording of the match. The scene that was broadcast including the known outtake wasn't live. The filming crew played the football match in the background and timed it well with the goal to put him off as a practical joke. (read that somewhere) Could of been the match from a few months-ago.

When I started this discussion a few months ago I thought it would disappear after a week or so, but I am really glad so many folk have got involved. Every post adds another bit of info, and the contradictions and mistakes that were made are amusing. I guess that nobody thought thirty years later it would be the subject of so much scrutiny. However, with all the 'shite' that real life brings, it's a pleasure to come onto this site sometimes and escape for a bit, which, in a way is what AWP gives us.

Absolutely. There are so many fantastic moments, but for me tonight it has to be Oz and Mox in Norma's living room watching the open university. Priceless.

Waddle joined Tottenham Hotspur on 1 July 1985 so we're talking the summer of '85 surely.

It was a recording for the show, as playing a live commentary into the studio would have been a logistical nightmare, but as far as Neville and Brenda are concerned it was a live match. Is it possible it could have been a pre-season friendly or perhaps one of the last matches of the season?

In Series 1 Episode 2, there's a calendar on the wall behind Barry in the scene where he's doing his ironing and talking about the need to elect a leader. But I can't make out the dates on it.

Weirdly I just asked this a few days ago -
http://auf-pet.com/forumnew/viewtopic.p ... 4&start=10
I reckon it is September, October and November. And if we assume that the last column on the far right as we look at it (in red) are Sundays then it has to be 1982. September 5th, October the 3rd were Sundays in 1982, as was November 7th.

If this hasn't been covered I've realised now how I thought the lads spent Xmas in Düsseldorf. It's to do with Barry talking to Trevor.....'Düsseldorf in January's no picnic'

I remember you saying a while back that they must of spent Christmas there and I've wondered for a while how you came to that conclusion. I just assumed they arrived in january when Barry said that to Trevor. Actually the name's Trev. Surely they wouldn't of spent Christmas in that hut. Neville wasn't that much of a masochist.
