Series 1 Fourteenth Ep Theme

Imagine there had been 14 (or more) series 1 episodes commissioned. I've thought long and hard what other self-contained storylines might be used that aren't already done. Any thoughts? Personally having the lads talk bollocks in the hut for 50 minutes is more than enough, but in terms of having a specific story theme, what do you think? I'd love to ask Stan Hey this question.

Ep 14 for me would start with the lads back in blighty.

Bomber throwing his self at the mercy of the wife and dhss
Moxey arriving home and trying to stay out of trouble.
Neville expecting everything to be great but nothings really changed
Oz arriving at Marjorie's and not been made very welcome
Wayne staying in Germany
Barry getting back to Wolverhampton with big ideas
Dennis getting back with Vera and ending back in the pub when it all falls apart

Obviously all this wouldn't happen in one episode but the cracks would already start to develop

Aye it's a shame all the lads didn't just accept the financial obligations to the German state - and stayed there. They could of been on series 25 by now.

Weirdly, looking at this from a real life situation, they were daft to leave!
No jobs back in the UK, and I know they had to pay tax, but surely to come back was a bad decision....
This is all real life based thinking, and nothing to do with the writing....

Yes Lee but it's the kids. Don't you see? It's the kids that makes the difference.

Nev, Dennis and Bomber all had good reason to go back home; their families and children. Oz didn't like the Germans or German life very much, plus Newcastle had just signed Kevin Keegan. Barry wasn't going to go home, but had no choice when his bike caught fire and burned the hut down.

I don't think Moxey stayed back in the UK for very long; didn't he say that he joined the merchant navy in series 2? And Wayne, of course, had his blossoming romance with Christa.

if they wanted, they would have done it. it's just us because we love the show, we make up other episodes. which is healthy really, nowts wrong with that.

I was really thinking about potential "stand alone" storylines sandwiched between Ep 1 and Ep 13. I can't think of any themes that weren't covered in other storylines, i.e. arrests, UXBs, unwanted guests, footy match, runaway daughter, romantic liaisons, deserter etc. etc.

I think the thing that stands out about Series 1, is that apart from the last 3 episodes, you can watch each one, without seeing the previous. We have discussed this before, and maybe this was why Jimmy Nail for instance didn't like Series 2, as it wasn't having the same flow, or not as it were.
